With our facial paralysis rehabilitation surgery, you will recover your normal facial functions and expressions and regain feeling in your face.
Facial paralysis rehabilitation surgery is a procedure that is intended to minimise the effects of improperly working nerves or those caused by a congenital condition that impedes speaking or smiling normally, for example.
Type of procedure
Quirúrgica con anestesia general.
Varies by patient.
2 to 6-hr operation. Requires admission.
Facial paralysis rehabilitation surgery will not only improve your appearance, it will also improve the functionality of the affected parts of your face, and with it your expression and your sensitivity. Not only will it improve your health and quality of life, it will boost your confidence.
Are you the ideal candidate?
People who undergo this procedure tend to have eyebrow droop, difficulty closing eyes, watery eyes, trouble smiling, drooping mouth corners, speech impediments or trouble breathing. If you are in good overall health, are psychologically stable and have realistic expectations, you are a good candidate. This operation will improve how your face looks and functions and it will boost your self-confidence. Think about what you want to accomplish and talk it over with our surgeons.
We will apply the technique that best suits the results you want to achieve and the problem you want treated. There are two procedure types: static, in which the soft tissue structures of the face are suspended; and dynamic, which relies on nerve grafts to reanimate the muscles. Facial paralysis rehabilitation surgery is performed in our operating theatres under general anaesthesia. It lasts two to six hours and requires admission.
After surgery it is normal to feel tired and some discomfort, but this can be easily remedied and controlled. You will also feel discomfort in the affected area that will disappear gradually.
Back to normal
After the stitches are removed and the operation is deemed to have been successful, you can resume normal activities.
This procedure will give you your facial expression and sensitivity back and noticeably improve facial function. In addition to improving your appearance, breathing and speech, you will be able to smile naturally again, and your self-esteem and confidence will very likely be significantly boosted.
Complications are infrequent and tend not to be serious. To minimise the risk, it is essential that you follow our surgeons’ instructions both before and after the operation. Our team will closely monitor your progress throughout the entire process.
