Rhinoplasty – Nose Surgery
Breathe easy, with a balanced new face
Rhinoplasty changes the shape of your nose. This is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures.
Nose surgery corrects aesthetic and functional problems related to the nose, whether congenital or due to injury. It is indicated both to balance your facial features or to resolve possible nasal septum deviations hampering breathing through the nose (septoplasty).
Type of procedure
Major outpatient surgery.
From 7 - 10 days
A 1-2 hour procedure. On an outpatient basis . A plaster cast is used
Rhinoplasty will solve problems with regards to the size, width, volume and profile of your nose, altering the shape of the nasal tip, improving the appearance of the nostrils, and correcting asymmetries. It can also resolve breathing problems caused by a deviated septum.
Are you the ideal candidate?
If you are a woman seeking an improvement in the appearance and functionality of your nose, and are psychologically and emotionally stable, you are an ideal candidate.
There are two ways to perform the surgery. The most common leaves no external scars, and is called closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is carried out in more difficult cases, such as to correct major deformities. We always perform rhinoplasty procedures in our operating rooms, and normally under general anaesthesia, though it can also be done under local anaesthesia with sedation. The procedure usually lasts from 1 to 2 hours. When the surgery is over we place a cast, of plaster or another material, to help maintain the nose's new shape.
After surgery, especially during the first 24 hours, it is normal for the patient's face to be swollen and for her to experience discomfort around the nose, or headaches. It is, therefore, important that you remain lying down with your head upright for the first day (except when using the lavatory). A slight nosebleed is normal during the first few days. The nose plugs will be removed within 1 or 2 days, after which you will feel much better. After a week, or two at most, we will also remove the plaster and stitches, where applicable.
Back to normal
After 2 days you’ll feel better, and you’ll be able to return to work or school in about 1 week. We strongly recommend that you not perform any strenuous activities (running, swimming, push-ups ...) for 2 to 3 weeks following the surgery. Take special care to protect the nose from any possible contact, and do not sunbathe for 8 weeks. We also advise you to wash your face carefully and take precautions if you wear glasses. You can use contact lenses as soon as you want.
Your appearance will improve day by day, and you’ll be delighted with the results. In 1 or 2 weeks you will not notice any discomfort at all from the surgery. There are no scar-related problems because the incisions are made inside the nose. Even in cases of open rhinoplasty, the scar is almost invisible.
We perform successful nose jobs every year. Patients can rely on our qualified plastic surgeons. Complications are rare and tend to be minor. Rhinoplasty is a safe technique. However, as is the case with any surgery, there is always the possibility of complications. To minimise this risk, especially if you are a smoker, it is imperative that you carefully follow our plastic surgeons' instructions, both before and after surgery.
